ARCHITECTURAL GLAZING

The benefits of ClearShield Eco-Glass® go far beyond its easy-to-clean properties. It protects the glass surface from damage caused by corrosion, weathering and chemical contamination.

For architects, building contractors, building owners and facilities managers, ClearShield Eco-Glass® gives the following benefits:

  • Protects glass during construction, reducing construction costs and delays

  • Helps to handover completed glass façade buildings in pristine appearance

  • Keeps glass looking like new, maintaining its clean and sparkling appearance

  • Reduces maintenance and increases satisfaction of tenants and occupiers

  • Specifying ClearShield® contributes to the ‘Green Building’ initiative by significantly reducing the use of water and harsh cleaning chemicals

During Construction
Building contractors face the problem of concrete splatter, cement dust and slurry and other types of alkaline construction materials damaging and corroding the surface of glass on building sites.

ClearShield Eco-Glass® helps to reduce:

  • remedial work and costly replacement for glass surface damage

  • costs from unsatisfactory final builder’s clean or call-backs

  • delayed certification on glazing handover

After Construction
Inevitably, unprotected glass becomes contaminated over time, ruining a building’s appearance. Typical contaminants include concrete and silicone run-off, traffic fumes, tree sap and bird lime.

The result is costly and difficult cleaning. With ClearShield Eco-Glass® however, this means:

  • less use of access equipment to maintain the glass

  • increased effectiveness and reduced frequency of window washing

  • glass stays cleaner for longer

Architects and Specifiers

ClearShield Eco-Glass® can be specified for building projects prior to installation. The advantage is that glass is protected before, during and after the construction phase and helps to minimise delays. Contact us if you are interested in specifying ClearShield Eco-Glass®.

Unprotected glass already installed
For glass already contaminated during or after construction, Ritec’s specialist on-site team can renovate contaminated glass to its original ‘as-new’ appearance and then provide effective protection from future contamination. Click here for further information.

ARCHITECTURAL CASE STUDIES

After ClearShield Eco-Systemâ„¢ treatment (left) and before

Grand Hotel Tijuana

Tijuana, Mexico

Located within the central business district of Tijuana, Mexico, the complex consists of two towers, one of which houses the five-star Grand Hotel.

After undergoing a recent complete refurbishment of the lobby and guest rooms, the façade was left to look stained and dirty, with regular cleaning no longer being effective.

The Ritec ClearShield Eco-System’s unique renovation process brought the glass back to its original sparkling appearance before being protected with the durable award-winning Ritec ClearShield® protection. This not only ensures that the glass will resist the staining that it previously suffered, but it will also make cleaning quicker and easier as well as less frequent.

The Grand Hotel's Operations Manager, said: "We tried different products but unhappy with results and patience almost ran out. It was when we found out about Ritec ClearShield®, we did a test treatment and were very happy with the result. We decided to apply it to the whole building... results are outstanding."

Shanghai World Financial Center

Shanghai, China

With a height of 1,614 feet, this award-winning building is one of the tallest in Mainland China.

Approximately 1.08 million ft² of glass was treated with Ritec ClearShield® in the factory prior to installation. This meant any harsh inorganic contaminants on the glass, such as concrete splatter and cement dust, was easier to remove during its construction. Therefore Ritec ClearShield® reduces potential costly delays during construction and provides a significantly lower-cost alternative to replacing the glass due to surface damage.

Lloyd's of London Building

London, UK

The owners of the Lloyd’s Building found that paint on the frame around the atrium was shedding and plating onto the glass and adhered to the surface, making cleaning extremely difficult. The glass was successfully converted to Ritec ClearShield 'non-stick' Glass. Today, the paint still flakes but thanks to Ritec ClearShield® is easily wiped off and conventional cleaning methods are still sufficient to maintain the glass.

Lloyds’ Building Facilities Manager said, “We are very impressed with the Ritec ClearShield System®, it has been extremely beneficial to our facilities management operation and we intend to carry on with the aftercare regime.”
